Poole has a new junior school, located on the Fourways site on Constitution Hill Road, opening this September. The building work on Ocean Academy is now complete and the school will soon be ready for up to 360 pupils, with 90 in each of four age groups. The school sponsor is Aspirations Academies Trust, who will continue to work with the Borough of Poole to ensure everthing is ready for the opening.
Cllr Mike White (Hamworthy East), Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Children and Young People and Capital Projects at the Borough of Poole, said: “We are delighted the new school, the first newly established school in Poole for 22 years, has been completed. It will help meet the growing need for junior school places in the central Poole area, due to increased numbers of children already in our infant schools.”
“On Monday 6 July we’ll also be holding an open afternoon for local residents to come and have a look around the school. Many local residents were there at our early consultation events, so we’d be delighted to welcome them back to see the finished product. Please drop in anytime between 3 and 7 pm.”
Cllr Janet Walton (Oakdale), who is now Leader of the Borough of Poole Council, was instrumental in securing funding for the new academy, construction of which started last year, as well as for other schools in Poole. Last year she said: “Poole Council working closely with the Government have obtained substantial funding to improve the schools for the benefit of our children. We are sure more funding will be obtained to further enhance education in Poole.”
